This weekend’s free promotion was both educational and fun to track. As a novice to independent publishing, with no real marketing beyond myself and the Kindle Direct Publishing platform, I am building my author platform as I go.
I began promoting my free days on Friday, January 11, using Twitter and Facebook Ads, along with regular tweeting and a bit of posting of Facebook. The actual free days were Saturday and Sunday, January 12th and 13th.
Saturday was a bang-up day with over 200 downloads, while Sunday was about half that. By the end of the day Saturday, The House That Wasn’t was #8 in Free Kindle Teen Horror eBooks and #44 in Free Kindle Teen Romance.
Right now, I am planning my next dates to the promotion again, perhaps even next weekend. As someone newly published, it feels like building momentum early in the KDP Select program is the right thing to do, as a means of getting the book into the hands of more readers and reviewers.
